At MarineCorps.com, we are proud to preserve and promote the extraordinary legacy of Colonel Charles Waterhouse, the official Artist in Residence of the United States Marine Corps.
Through every brushstroke, Colonel Waterhouse captured the soul of the Marine Corps—its history, its heroes, and its unbreakable spirit. His art tells the stories of Marines from 1775 to today, honoring their sacrifice and valor in a way no words ever could.
For more than 35 years, Colonel Charles Waterhouse was more than just a mentor to me—he was a trusted friend, a fellow Marine, and a man whose talent and character left a lasting mark on my life. His wife, Bobby, was always by his side, faithfully driving him from place to place so he could share his art, his history, and his love for the Corps with the world. Together, they were a team unlike any other.
I believe it is our duty—as Marines and as friends—to ensure that the legacy of Marines like Colonel Waterhouse endures. His art captures more than battles; it captures the heart and soul of the Marine Corps—honor, courage, commitment, and fidelity.
Through MarineCorps.com, we stand watch over his contributions like a digital Firewatch—keeping his memory alive and his message clear: Every Marine has a story. Every story deserves to be remembered.
I invite you to explore his work, reflect on our history, and join us in carrying his legacy forward.
Semper Fidelis,
Jim
